Single to mingle? In the world of relationships, being ‘single’ can be more complicated than we
understand. How do we define, being single? According the Oxford Dictionary in reference to one’s
love life, is “(of a person) not married or having a romantic relationship with someone.” As the FIT
Therapist exclaims, “Wow!” Ok, it’s pretty self explanatory to be ‘not married’ but, what about all of the
other examples of the ‘single’ life? The FIT Therapist alongside her panel of single guests, explores what
it means to be single in todays society.

First acknowledging that society puts a lot of pressure on singleness, she opens up with the 1 st guest who
is by their own admission dating someone ‘exclusively’, by asking a simple question of whether or not,
they consider themselves as ‘single’. The panel and live viewers find that, this is an inherently
challenging question to answer because we all have different interpretations or distinctions as to the
meaning of exclusiveness in ‘single’ relationships. Are you single because of the amount of attention
each person is receiving or is it based upon a status inside of a social media platform? Or, is it based
upon society’s perception of your relationship outside of those parameters? It’s almost easier to define
the term ‘single’ in relation to whether or not a person is legally married or not. The FIT Therapist and
her panelists walk down the varying levels of commitment that they each view as what it means to be
‘exclusive’ with someone.
